I had seen a lot of StreetSUP videos on YouTube and Instagram where
they explained that it was a perfect complementary training for SUP which caught my interest.
Andreas: My name is Andreas Svensson and I live on the Swedish west coast. I do a lot of Stand Up Paddling (SUP) competitions and am a part of the Swedish national team. I had seen a lot of StreetSUP videos on YouTube and Instagram where they explained that it was a perfect complementary training for SUP which caught my interest.
I can not really do any good skateboarding yet but I ride a lot of longboard. When I got the opportunity to try Hamboards in Holland I loved it. The fast turns, the way you can walk on the board, the StreetSweeper. It was a whole new level of riding a board so when I Heard that Hamboards Sweden started I just had to Contact them.
Yenny: Do you call it Land Paddling, Street SUP or something else?
Andreas: I don´t know if the correct term is land paddling or if that is only when you use the street sweeper so I Always say that I do Hamboarding.
Yenny: Where do you usually like to ride?
Andreas: The best Place to ride is a new place. So far I have tried places like Åre in Sweden, Maui Hawaii and Holland and they all got their own beautiful stories and surroundings.
Yenny: What do you think are the prominent benefits with SSUP/Land Paddling. How has it benefited you?
Andreas: When I lived in Åre, Sweden this Winter the lake was frozen and I could not do any SUP training so whenever the streets were good I took my Hamboard out for a ride, Now I just finished my first SUP competition this year in Hawaii and I felt like the balance was there from the start thanks to Hamboarding.
Yenny: Do you have any land paddling/Street SUP techniques your could share with the reader?
Andreas: Mostly it is all about going out having fun but standing parallel with your feet using the paddle is pretty Close to SUP training and also using a big board like the Classic can help you with your cross stepping technique..
In the beginning it is better to have the trucks a little bit harder so it gets easy to move on the board and as you get better you can loosen the trucks for faster turns.
Yenny: How can people find out more about you?
They can Always find me on:
My girlfriend has a blog were she also write a lot about our SUP trips.
